MDI is a nonprofit organization that serves as a resource for instruction, training, and information relating to dyslexia. To accomplish this we provide:
- Orton-Gillingham based instruction
- Testing to aid in the identification of dyslexia
- Professional learning for individuals and educators
- Resources that promote the understanding of dyslexia
MDI envisions a world where individuals with dyslexia feel empowered and look forward to the future with hope and confidence.
Founded in 1982, the Michigan Dyslexia Institute, Inc. (MDI) was the first ever nonprofit educational organization in Michigan focused expressly on raising awareness about dyslexia and focusing on the needs of persons affected by it. When you come to us, you come to the dyslexia experts.
MDI has been a leader in training educators to provide effective instruction to students through use of the Orton-Gillingham Approach. They have also provided one-on-one, individualized instruction to thousands of children and adults via five regional centers throughout Michigan.
MDI is a special place because of the dedicated and passionate individuals who work here. Their tireless efforts in staying up-to-date with the latest dyslexia research, creating personalized lesson plans for each student, and going out of the way to go above and beyond for students and each other is what makes MDI the best dyslexia institution in the state, and one of the leading institutions in the nation.
MDI is funded by a combination of grants, donations, and fees for service programs. We work diligently to keep costs at the lowest available in the area, and raise funds to provide scholarships to students who may not otherwise be able to afford services. This sets us apart from the for-profit dyslexia centers across the state and country.
