Description

Our founder, Kay Howell, created this resource book by pulling words with common phonological and orthographic patterns from the dictionary.  It was designed to aid instructors in planning differentiated reading lessons or creating word lists for students who need more reading and spelling practice for a specific grapheme/phoneme.

Why its so unique:

  • The lists were made by a knowledgeable human, so they don’t contain errors often found in other word lists that are simply based on spelling patterns. For example, you will not find ‘work’ mixed in with other ‘or’ words like ‘fork’, ‘torch’, and ‘abhor’. ‘Work’ has a similar orthographic pattern, but the ‘or’ is pronounced differently in ‘work’ than ‘fork’.
  • The lists are in order by level of complexity based on a quality Orton-Gillingham Scope and Sequence.
  • The book is organized by concept and contains many patterns not found in other books.
